About the Lecture

A song by the water mill, a fabulous sleeve dance

A compelling story, an unforgettable romance.

Kun Opera is one of the oldest Chinese opera and world cultural heritage. Kun Opera combines poetry, dance, and painting onto the theatre stage. During several hundred years’ development, the unique art form has been refined and become a source of romance with humanity beauty. It also begins to step into the multimedia space with traditional aesthetics.
Walking out of the theater and stepping in to the museum, Kun Opera enters the contemporary public space, where the traditional opera is meeting the new demand of creative content and form. In the museum, the obstruction of the traditional stage dissolves, and Kun Opera reveals not only the historical accumulation and classical opera vocals, but also the craftmanship of Kun Opera artists, and their respects to traditional art. The Kun Opera artist has made great attempt to merge the beauty of Kun Opera into life, through a series of explorations in the contemporary context.

Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum is going to invite China’s first professional Kun Opera promoter Zhao Jinyu to share about his “Kun Opera +” concept as well as interesting fun facts about Kun Opera. What’s more, there will be a Kun Opera cosmetics and costumes display, where lucky audiences will get the chance to put on some of the costumes and cosmetics, to get a close-up experience of the Kun Opera (the audience need to bring their own folding fan). No matter you are a new fan of opera art, or a senior opera lover, please join us to get in the vibe of Kun Opera.
